“Gr8! Don’t forget to send ur war to me by fri. btw ur doing gr8 @ keeping in touch. lets meet soon. ttyl, j”
Email, instant messages, text messages, PDA’s and cell phones have taken over our schedules, communications and even our social life. These online tools have brought us into a mobile world filled with the ease of communication, but along with the ease of this type of communication comes the ease of missing the mark when it comes to business etiquette. With many people writing and communicating with instant shortcuts it makes it much easier for you to stand out from the rest of the mobile crowd.
Below are some helpful tips to maintain your business etiquette when communicating to people electronically:
Short, Sweet, & To The Point
If the person you are communicating with is anything like myself, then they have massive amounts of follow-up emails and phone messages to respond to. Make it easy for them to prioritize your message by stating the point up front as simply as you can.
Avoid mbl shrtcts
Proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation creates an excellent image! When communicating professionally its always better to leave out the mobile shortcuts and complete your thoughts using clear writing & proper grammar.
Call To Action
Give your audience a call to action at the end of your email/message. Tell them, again, what it is that you want them to do with the information in the email. How do you want them to respond?
Communicating clearly is very important to getting the desired response to your message. I would challenge you to double check the way you communicate with other people using all the forms of eCommunication.
