You have waisted your entire day if you showed up at the office this morning and asked yourself, “What needs to be done?” It’s gone! You might as well only work half the day. Take it easy and maybe you’ll do better next week.
…or will you?
In my time as an insurance agent I’ve seen agents come and I’ve seen agents go. I’ve seen them fail and I’ve seen them succeed. I have even been the one that has succeeded and the one that has failed. The difference between the two is quite simple really: The agents that come and succeed are the one that use their time the best & always know what they are doing before they get have to do it.
Since today is Friday, I want to challenge you to try something this next week; kind of a homework assignment. If you decide to take it seriously, I’ll bet you will double your productivity and use your time more efficiently. Here it is…
Step One: Plan Your Week
Take a few minutes before you leave the office tonight to organize what you need to accomplish next week. Take this list of things and order it from hardest to easiest. The goal here is to have a good understanding of what needs to be done when you leave the office next Friday (04/09/08). Obviously, next week you will start with the hardest thing on the list, then move to the easier things.
Step Two: Plan Your Day
When you’ve done that take another minute to get ready for Monday. Create the same type of list as you did for the entire week, only this time it’s just for Monday. After you have an understanding of what needs to be done on Monday, then prepare all the papers/files to get started. The goal for this step is to be able to walk into the office Monday morning, check your messages, answer emails, get your coffee and start on the projects that need to be done for the day.
Step Three: Plan Tomorrow…Today (every day)
If you did this, I would be willing to place a small bet that you would finish for the day earlier, be able to plan your next day, and even work ahead.
At our office we have a saying that says, “Plan your work. Work your plan.” The most successful agents and staff are the ones that know what they are doing before they get there. Their the ones that have their tomorrow planned today and next week planned this week. Work to do the same thing and you will get noticed for it…guarantee it!
